2024 Nid Tisse, Bacigalupi Vineyard Chardonnay, Russian River Valley 12x75cl

JS97TWP97
*Blend: 100% Chardonnay *Vintage production: 130 cases *Nid-Tissé is already well on the way to being one of California’s most sought-after labels, and the naturally low production levels means... getting an allocation at release is essential. Owner and winemaker Marie-Laure Ammons studied in Bordeaux and Burgundy before moving to California where she was hand-picked by Philippe Melka to join his team. Following 18 years at Atelier Melka, gaining hands-on experience at California’s top vineyards, she took the next step in her career to start Nid-Tissé. With her inaugural 2019 vintage releases, Marie-Laure rocketed to the top with her mailing list becoming a waiting list in the blink of an eye. Sommeliers and buyers at the top Michelin-starred restaurants scrambled for an allocation, and the subsequent amazing scores fanned the flames! Towards the Pacific coast, the historic Bacigalupi Vineyard lies in the heart of Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. Since the early 1970s, this site has been heralded as one of the most important in California, playing a winning role in a certain ‘Judgement of Paris’. While that was a significant moment in time, the wines produced there now are better than ever. Marie-Laure has access to the best block of Wente Clone vines, with the Nid-Tissé Bacigalupi Vineyard Chardonnay 2024 seeing 12 months in Burgundian French oak (13% new), followed by 3 months in stainless steel prior to bottling. The result is a gorgeous wine driven by texture and elegance.

2016 Soliste, Terre Promise Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 1x75cl

Dijon 115 clone in the family’s Sonatera Vineyard. The 115 clone originated in Burgundy where is was saved in early 1950s by Raymond Bernard, who was allowed to graft in Domaine Ponsot’s vineyard in the Grand Cru of Clos de la Roche. It was then sent first to David Lett in Oregon and made its way down to Sonoma. Of the many clones Soliste have worked with, their favourite is Dijon 115.   In 2015, Don and Claude were introduced to Terra de Promissio Vineyard, just south of Petaluma, and fell in love with it straight away. They noted a parcel of Dijon 115 vines, and with their relentless dedication to produce the very best Pinot Noir, they applied their knowledge to create a Pinot worthy of their MonoClone® programme. Of all the wines produced by Soliste, this is Don's favourite - so far...

2018 Mauritson Wines, Loam Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County 1x75cl

RP94
*Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon *Vintage production: 170 cases *Mauritson's vision for LOAM is simple: to produce exceptional Cabernet Sauvignons in Sonoma County by cultivating exemplary vineyards... defined by their soil. All wines in the LOAM series are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 100% identical clone and rootstock - but embody the single variable of the soil in which they were grown. LOAM Cabernet Sauvignon is Mauritson's proprietary blend of grapes sourced from vineyards planted in Positas, Suther, and Clough soils. It is composed of the best vineyards, grown in the best soil, from the best appellations. Perfectly structured, LOAM balances the brightness and focused tannins of hillside fruit with the dense, rich characteristics of fruit grown in the ancient riverbed and valley floor soils. Four Corners Wine: "A real 'WOW' Cabernet! Rich and intense on the nose with bags of grilled herbs meat juices, an almost compote/red wine jus note, a touch of caramelised mushroom, and a core of pure blackcurrant. On the palate it's extremely refined, youthful, and pure, with a juicy core boasting great depth and texture. It's an intense Cabernet, hugely appealing and distinct in its character. Stunning now, easier 15+ years of cellaring potential too." (Dec. 2022)

2021 Argot, Le Rayon-Vert Chardonnay, Sonoma Mountain 1x75cl

WI96
*Blend: 100% Chardonnay *Vintage production: 130 cases *Argot winemaker and founder Justin Harmon is one of THE names to follow in Northern California, and this latest release shows just why. Rich,... lifted aromatics, so much purity, bags on tension, intensity minerality, laser-like precision... it is phenomenal. 'Le Rayon Vert', the phenomenon which occurs as the sun dips below the horizon, and a brilliant green flash occurs when sunlight prisms through Earth's atmosphere. Jules Verne called it "a green which no artist could ever obtain on his palette”, akin to the ethereal, green halo all truly pedigreed Chardonnays radiate from the glass. All Justin's wines are small-scale artisanal productions - for the La Rayon-Vert he uses fruit from the exceptional Steiner and Richard Dinner Vineyards on Sonoma Mountain. This is a terroir that brings impressive depth while retaining dazzling verve and acidity.
